When I was little I would lay in my bed at nap time and trace every object in my room with my eyes. This drawing without pen and paper allowed me to record my world in my mind, so that I would never forget it.
I graduated from Columbine High School in 1980, where I was introduced to the painting mediums. I then attended CSU and had a year of basic art there.
After getting married in 1981, I took the next 20 some years off from serious painting to be a homemaker. Raising five children makes it challenging to find time to be "arty." It can be a little frustrating, expecially when that "artist's" urge to paint kicks in, and there are children who need your attention.
My painting techniques I have learned through trial and error. In my earlier works I meticulously recorded moments in time. My newest works are a credit to Professor Larry Jon Davis, who is patiently pushing my heart and mind to loosen up! It is my hope that you find these works more moving. I am merely trying to share some of what God has allowed me to see. And if just one image catches someone's spirit, if only for a moment, then that is a blessing.
There are two sections to my work. The first I call the "B.C." series (Before Christ). They are the works, that although God was guiding me to paint, I did not know it. The second series, or "A.D." series, are the works completed to honor our Lord and Savior. Collaged into each of these paintings is a crucifix. It is how I share that God's love is real, and is what has and continues to hold me together. Those of you who know me, know that this is a good thing.
So why do I paint? Because, almost everything I am has been tainted by what and who the world says I should be. When I paint, I am merely being who I was born to be.
